He was educated at Sir William Borlase's Grammar School in Marlow (1949 – 1956) and the Universities of Paris, Caen, and Reading (1956 – 1960), where he read French. In 1961 he began working for the BBC, mainly as Keith Bosley (16 September 1937 – 24 June 2018) was a British poet and translator.

Bosley retired from the British Broadcasting Corporation in 1993 and lives in Berkshire. In 2001 he was awarded a pension from the Royal Literary Fund, and continues in his role as organist at Street Laurence"s Church, Upton-cum-Chalvey.

Keith Waterhouse was born in Leeds in 1929. Billy Liar was Keith Waterhouse’s second novel, and remained his most famous. Failing his eleven-plus, he left school at fourteen, worked for an undertaker and did his National Service, before taking a job on the Yorkshire Evening Post. He then moved to the Daily Mirror where he became a celebrated national columnist, not leaving till Robert Maxwell took over the paper in 1985. The final draft, completed in a frenzied three weeks, was provisionally called Saturday Night at the Roxy until the appearance of Sillitoe’s Saturday Night and Sunday Morning made a further change of title inevitable.
Francis Bosley Crowther Jr. was born in Lutherville, M. on July 13, 1905, the son of F. Bosley and Eliza Leisenring Crowther. Like his father, he dropped his first name in favor of Bosley. He attended grade schools in Lutherville and high schools in Winston-Salem, . before entering Woodbury Forest School in Woodbury, Va.
