Hayes’ 1977 masterwork, God's Images. The Bible: A New Vision, illustrates the Bible through 53 etchings, with text by poet-novelist James Dickey. It won the National Bible Committee Award for books, presented by then-president Jimmy Carter. Hayes appeared on several television shows, including the Today Show and the Dick Cavett Show. From 1965 to 1991, Hayes lived in Wilton, Connecticut, where he took care of his ailing mother.

com's James Dickey Author Page. Born in 1923 in Buckhead, Georgia, Dickey spent a year at Clemson University before enlisting in World War II. As a member of the 418th Night Fighter Squadron, Dickey flew more than 100 combat missions in the Pacific Theater, and it was during this time that he began to experiment with poetry. After the war, he finished his degree at Vanderbilt University. Although he started writing poetry in 1947, Dickey did not become a full-time poet until thirteen years later.
