Even though I wanted to story to end differently, I found it a truly compelling read. The author's sensitivity to language, to nuances and how they can create an unforgettable emotional landscape was very, very rewarding.
Nicely done. Definitely a very good read.

A Classic Spanish mastery, filled with romance, heartbreak, and brilliant prose

This short Spanish novel chronicles a family of women who are a force in this small country town. Whether spinsters or widows, each has a well-defined personality and a role to play in the family home. Unfortunately I lost interest halfway through.

The stories told in this novel are good, but the language and imagery the author uses to tell them are unbelievable. It's beautifully written, and is worth reading for that alone.
