Allison Rushby - Diamonds are a Teens Best Friend. This time, I spell it out for him. And when that’s done, he stops being weird altogether, loosens up, and we even chat for a bit about what I’m doing on board the ship, my dad’s study, and how I got to know Holly. When he asks me about Holly’s broken engagement and cancelled wedding plans, however, I feel a bit uncomfortable. I don’t know if I’m supposed to talk about that, I say, my eyes not meeting his face. You know something, Alexa? A lot can happen in twelve hours on a cruise ship. A lot, lot more than can happen on dry land, let me tell you.

Three years ago, waitress slash sculptor Charlie Notting advertised for a roommate and rock musician Jasper "Jas" Ash responded and moved in. Over the next few months as Jas goes through a different woman every week, Charlie falls in love with him. The day before Jas is to leave her to fulfill a music contract; they succumb and begin to make love. However, Jas stops insisting it has nothing to do with Charlie. She is hurt and tells him she never wants to see him again.
Charlie's friends and family gift her with a trip to London feeling she deserves it. On the plane, she encounters Jas who is a rising superstar. They agree to tour Europe together though Charlie fears she will be hurt. However, this Jas will do whatever it takes to prove to Charlie that it was not her and that he loves her as he did three years ago. First he must re-earn her trust.
Readers will be very surprised why Jas failed to make love to Charlie, but though difficult to accept, the reason is reasonable in this gender bending contemporary romance. The fun story line uses flashbacks to show the first ill-fated relationship between the lead couple, which can prove a bit confusing, but worth the trip back to compare how far the twosome have come in three years. Chick lit readers will appreciate Charlie and her feeling of inadequacy while at first hissing at Jas, but as the audience becomes acquainted with him will like him and when they learn the truth cherish him. Allison Rushby writes a pleasant tale of love.

For any girl who "thought" she had an unrequited first love, the story of Charlie & Jas will keep you rooting for them page after page. And wondering about what might have happened if fate had intervened and put you on an "Oktoberfest" tour with your first love...
They start out as roommates, and while Jas is working his way through every blonde babe at the university, Charlie is falling in love with him. They have an amazing friendship, yet when things start to heat up romantically, Jas all of a sudden backs off, telling Charlie, "It's not you, it's me..."
Two years later, after Charlie's mother has died, and Jas has become a famous rock star, "Zamiel", they find themselves sitting next to each other on a plane to London. Their friendship is renewed, and Charlie invites Jas to join her on an Oktoberfest tour in Germany.
The character development doesn't live up to its potential, there are some unanswered questions (like why Zamiel's fans want to kill him), and there are there are a few spots in the story line where it starts to drag a bit and you wish they'd just get on with it already. But the dialog between Charlie & Jas is great, and for the most part it's a fun and exciting read.
It's not exactly a book that will make you "think", or change your life...but if you were after that you'd be checking out Oprah's Book club, not reading this review, right?
All in all it's a satisfying read that will keep you smiling throughout! I will definitely look out for Allison Rusby's next book in this genre.

Charlie, a struggling student-slash-artist, which makes her part of the "something-slash-something" generation, thought she'd never see Jasper, her former roommate, again after that ill-fated night in which she made a move on him only to get the dreadful "it's not you, it's me" speech. And the aforementioned thought is confirmed when she finds out that the sweet, generous aspiring songwriter is in a hardcore metal band. So imagine her surprise when she runs into him on a flight to London. They rekindle their friendship during a rather interesting beer tour. But will Charlie get real answers about that night? And, more important, does she still love her ambiguous friend? There are some fun twists throughout the novel.
It's Not You, It's Me is a romantic comedy about friendship, love and beer enthusiasts. I like the whole beer tour thing -- though I thought it was a strange storyline. I also like the whole unfinished business theme. This isn't the best Red Dress Ink novel out there, but it is a fun, light read from an up-and-coming Aussie author. I recommend it as a fine beach read...

There was nothing bad about this book, but it definitely won't rank amongst the best chick-lit of the year. The main characters - Charlie and Jas - are roommates for a short period of time before an `incident' separates them and creates a divide in their friendship. The former roommates meet up again about 3 years later on a flight and start anew. Jas joins a tour that Charlie is booked on and the two develop a friendship again while traveling the countryside with their tour group and guide. The book is slim on adventures and also on character development. Jas seemed very different than he was originally written, and there were quite a few gaps in the story, particularly about Charlie and her health. The one thing this author did well was in leaving enough `time' between when Jas and Charlie were roommates and when they met again; I really felt enough time/pages had passed that by the time they met again, they were two completely different characters. It was an interesting literary trick on the part of the author, but really didn't make the book any better.

This was my first Allison Rushby book, and by the end of the book I was desperatly wanting to read more. This book starts out in Australia and then proceeds all over Europe. It is a great chick lit read that deals with something unconventional and brings a unique travel backdrop to the story!

When Red Dress Ink books came out they seem to be monthly "Bridget Jones/Chick-lit books," but the lastest book that I have read from them "It's Not you It's Me" by Allison Rushby was not not that good. The character of Charlie and Jasper justed seem flat me. In the last thiry pages we learned that Charlie had cancer and that was the main reason that she didn't talked to Jasper, a man who turned into a Marilyn Manson wantabee. I have to say that they lasted RDI book has turned me off the whole series.
Voodoozragore
But certainly not the worst. It had a nice little plot, but a tad on the predicitable side as the story went on an on.
