If you like fantastic or too fantastic, then read on. Consistancy of character is lost as Jason Bourne and the supporting cast lose their identities established by Ludlum. Whilst reading I sensed that I had to familiarise myself with a new set of characters, who are behaving out of 'character'. Past loyalties are conveniently forgotten and some of the historic links are tenuous. Eric should have just created a new 'hero', who unlike the original Jason, gets beaten to a pulp in most encounters and somehow manages to fend off evil with a quick box to the ears. Ludlum erred on the side of realism - von Luststraberbaderem wants us to take many leaps of faith in one chapter. 3 stars because contemporary conflicts are woven into the backdrop - else two stars would be a bonus. A potentially good yarn spoilt by pandering to a potential Hollywood script.

Loved it. With so many twists, turns, and exciting scenes unfolding simultaneously. Enjoyed it. Jason and his equally matched rival, are a pleasure to try and figure their next move.

This is a solid tale, well written and filled with action from start to finish. Lustbader is a skilled keyboard jockey; however he takes the Bourne franchise into places neither frequented, nor anticipatable during the Ludlum years. Lustbader ends up with a little bit Clancy, little bit Stephen King, a dash of Ken Follett and (it seems) at little bit of simple self-adonration of the scrivener's art - in all this, Jason gets a little lost and confused, merely becoming a backdrop for a whole new flock of characters (most of whom do not survive the narrative) and a creature who dabbles in the pagan spirit realm, the melancholy of a long rehabilitation, but missing is the Jason Bourne intellect - where did it go...

Distracting is the apparent political leanings of the author who captures much of the internet lore of modern security contracting and concocts a wide-ranging conspiracy-theory of breathtaking transparency, seemingly directly aimed at indicting a real-life security contractor. Nonetheless, although a little slow to get started, this is an enjoyable yarn if one can look past the politics inserted -- but don't expect to recognize many attributes of either the lead personality or the tone of the tale... all new, if entertaining, territory...

After reading Robert Ludlum's (TM) The Bourne Sanction, I couldn't wait to read The Bourne Deception.

My first disappointment with the book is how Bourne survives being shot. I found it hard to believe. Even more amazing, is how Bourne manages to find alcoholic doctors who somehow manage to pull themselves together long enough to save Bourne from a near fatal event.

As a fan of Warren Murphy's The Destroyer series Death Check: Destroyer #2 (Destroyer, 2) (Pt 2), I was also disappointed to find that with no new Destroyer novels in sight, Shiva is now protecting Jason Bourne.

There was one event in the novel that will probably bring me to checking out the next Bourne novel - but this time I'll check it out from the library first.

Final recommendation: skip the book and watch one of the Matt Damon movies or go back to the best of the series: The Bourne Identity (Bourne Trilogy, Book 1)

Anyone who is hooked on Bourne will tell you that the labrynth of characters and questions to be answered is vast, and each book gives you some of the information- but you have to have a good memory to keep it all together, it can be that confusing and convoluted. Still, I continue to read them and try to piece it together to make the entire story come out at the end- or is there an end?

Not a bad Bourne book though a bit overdrawn with excessive description. Otherwise a decent Bourne novel for all fans.

Great read
The best of the 10 ,Bourne novels. If you follow the Bourne story, this explains how it is that he winds up serving Mossad. Like Israel he becomes a man isolated in the world with a few Allies and hardly any friends.
