The Canadian Government has committed to establishing a national network of Marine Protected Areas. Progress in the Salish Sea (Strait of Georgia) of British Columbia has been slow. The parks are involving the local community in park planning and management but in a rather limited way, with Georgian Bay Islands National Park offering less opportunity for involvement than Bruce Peninsula National Park. This implies that the contribution of stewardship to park management is still limited.
This collection provides a timely look at park management and planning in Canada by bringing together scholars from the fields of geography and recreation studies as well as officials in Canada's public service and non-governmental organizations.
