This is an excellent introduction into the realm of digital design. As a student, I have had my fair share of textbooks that are nearly incomprehensible in the amount of compact information they offer. This book, however, manages to provide the reader with information without being overbearing or "too much." The how-to and practice sections are surprisingly accurate and genuinely help you learn. The text is engaging and offers many examples and screenshots for those who are more visual learners. Even if you are not taking a digital design course, I feel this book would be adequate to help one learn the basics of Photoshop, Illustrator, and more. I have not had the need to check out the accompanying CD, which indeed says something about the quality of this book. It's difficult to think of a way they could make this book any better, thus I give it 5 stars.

The fact that a textbook about digital design - even beginner design - was published with a cover like this (IN 2005 NO LESS) is so horrifying it could make a masterful symbolic representation of what is wrong with our society and education system in this day and age.

Not only is this cover an awful design professionally speaking, but even to the simplest, least artful person this cover is flat out unappealing. Students should never be lead to believe that someone who teaches such a subject can pass off knowing so little about it's true material.

Good for her that she knows the basics but I'd rather have my students be inspired by the author's talent and pushed to have such skill instead of seeing them feel patronized and think they can just scrape by to make a career in this field.

This book is out of date big time. Was required for a university digital design class and I still wonder why as it is worthless and really based on old and out of date concepts. Just save your money and don't buy it if needed for a digital design course.
