A summary describing purposes, objectives, system operation and related factors for selected reservoir systems is given. These keywords were added by machine and not by the authors. This process is experimental and the keywords may be updated as the learning algorithm improves.

A reservoir (from French réservoir – a "tank") is, most commonly, an enlarged natural or artificial lake, pond or impoundment created using a dam or lock to store water. Reservoirs can be created in a number of ways, including controlling a watercourse that drains an existing body of water, interrupting a watercourse to form an embayment within it, through excavation, or building any number of retaining walls or levees.

The winter operations provide a severe test of the profiler/RASS capabilities because atmospheric scattering is relatively weak and acoustic attenuation is relatively strong in cold, dry conditions. Nevertheless, the lower-frequency systems exhibited impressive height coverage for wind and virtual temperature profiling, whereas the high-frequency units provided higher-resolution measurements near the surface.

Traditionally, reservoir systems operation has been carried out using optimization techniques such as linear programming and dynamic programming. Linear programming cannot be applied when either the objective function or the constraints become non-linear.
