As books for older kids go, Regan's Monster series is a solid pick, and it deserves a space on your child's shelf. Dian is the author of many books for young readers, ranging from picture books to novels for teenagers. Jan 09, 2012 Victoria Dimmitt rated it really liked it. The Book of the Month Club (founded 1926) is a United States subscription-based e-commerce service that offers a selection of five new hardcover books each month to its members. Books are selected and endorsed by a panel of judges, and members choose which book they would like to receive, similar to how the club originally operated when it began in 1926. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. After beginning to read it I'd realized that I'd read this book before when I was younger. I also remembered how much I loved and still love the story.

Rilla Harmony Earth is embarrassed by her family because they don't let her do "normal" things like go to public school, eat junk food, or drink sodas. She has to be quiet in her own home because her home is a bed and breakfast that is owned by her mother and her aunt. One day Rilla goes to the mailbox and finds a box addressed to her from the Monster of the Month club. When she gets it into her room, which is the attic, and opens it something foreign and furry climbs out of the box. Rilla realizes that this is no ordinary club. That's not the only monster she receives.

This really is a great read. I loved it and will wind up reading it again. Dian Curtis Regan did a really great job with the plot of this book and I was intrigued throughout the entire story from the very first sentence.

Mine was an ex-library copy, but I LOVE this book. I used to check it out all the time when I was a kid. I had a baby recently and I wanted to read it to him. We read a chapter a night and got through it pretty quickly. The story is well written and so fun, I highly recommend it!

Like your favorite hole-in-the-wall restaurant, this was one of those obscure books no one else read and 10-year-old me adored. I loved Rilla, I loved her wacky family, and I loved that she was tomboy (like I was) but that status didn't define her. She's homeschooled, her mom is a total flower child, and eventually she starts receiving a new monster every month (monsters that don't exactly get along). I loved this book. It's quirky and fun, the characters well done, they're somehow both caricatures and realistic, if that makes any sense.

I think Monster of the Month Club is the first book I ever reread.

Monster of the month club was an okay book. There were only two monsters in it and Rilla was more involved in her personal life than the two monsters.
