Classical Mechanics is a textbook about that subject written by Herbert Goldstein, a professor at Columbia University. Intended for advanced undergraduate and beginning graduate students, it has been one of the standard references in its subject around the world since its first publication in 1951.
If the present state of an object is known it is possible to predict by the laws of classical mechanics how it will move in the future (determinism) and how it has moved in the past (reversibility).
For anyone trying to work through the physics problems in this book, this eliminates several potential hours of useless head scratching - or head banging.

The OP mentioned learning classical mechanics as a prelude to later QM courses.
Gregory’s Classical Mechanics is a major new textbook for undergraduates in mathe-matics and physics. The author’s clear and systematic style promotes a good understanding of the subject: each concept is motivated and illustrated by worked examples, while problem sets provide plenty of practice for understanding and technique. Computer assisted problems, some suitable for projects, are also included
Classical Mechanics is written for undergraduate students of physics or applied mathematics. It assumes some basic prior knowledge of the fundamental concepts and reasonable familiarity with elementary differential and integral calculus. Скачать (pdf, . 6 Mb) Читать.

Redirected from Classical mechanics). Classical mechanics is the study of the motion of bodies based upon Isaac Newton's famous laws of mechanics. There are no new physical concepts in classical mechanics that are not already extant in other areas of physics. What classical mechanics does is mathematically reformulate Newtonian physics to address a huge range of problems ranging from molecular dynamics to the motion of celestial bodies.
