A Hercules is a giant American cargo plane, and this particular one is owned by the New York Mafia. But it's been heisted, by one of their own employees, and it's now sitting in Karachi, Pakistan, loaded to the ceiling with illegal arms which are to be sold in Rhodesia to Ian Smith. Pilot Martin Gore and his two-man crew know nothing of the plane having been ""temporarily rerouted"" (or being put to personal use) by the Mafia underling.

Denis Pitts (6 January 1930 – 19 April 1994) was a journalist, film-maker and novelist. Denis Pitts first became widely known for his reports on the Suez Crisis and his subsequent articles in the New Statesman. In Suez he made the acquaintance of Michael Parkinson, who at the time was in charge of liaising with the press, and they would later work together for the Granada regional news programme, Scene at . 0.

A book where the adventure never stops, it will enthral children of all ages. With triumph after triumph in his past, Hercules has become proud and boastful, believing himself to be almost a god. Unless he can rediscover what it means to be a man, the king of the giants will break free and destroy the world.

Heathrow airport, london, 1000. Extract from Rogue Hercules by Denis Pitts. This book is based on the assumption that the European Common Market will fail. Alas, I fear it will. Wiltshire, England, 1976.

The rogue Hercules aircraft, a giant veteran American transport plane, will be taking off from Karachi airport illegally. She is improperly certified and outrageously over-loaded; her flight plan is spurious, her cargo illicit and her destination criminal. Carrying a shipment of arms to Rhodesia, Captain Martin Gore knows that he will be unable to make any stops on this last and most dangerous leg of the journey along the hostile east coast of Africa. These are the known dangers, and they are enough to make Captain Gore very nervous indeed - nervous enough to take the boss's girlfriend along as hostage and insurance of payment.
