The Cornish House book.

The Cornish House book.

I found 'The Cornish House' to be quite a good read. I couldn't reconcile myself to how badly behaved the daughter in the story was. Apart from that I enjoyed the story.

Boskenna, the beautiful, imposing house standing on the Cornish cliffs, means something different to each of the Trewin women. For Joan, as a glamorous young wife in the 1960s, it was a paradise where she and her husband could entertain and escape a world where no one was quite what they seemed – a world that would ultimately cost their marriage and end in tragedy.

Liz will there be a follow up book? Love to see what else could happen for the characters. I got so wrapped up in their stories. Liz Fenwick has the makings of an excellent writer and I’ll be waiting for her next novel with keen interest. Mind you, that house looks absolutely nothing like the fugly Cornish house that this Bookfox is presently living in. But still, definitely something to aspire to! Jackie. ISBN: 978-1409142737.

For a first novel, the book shows an author with promise. However, the false way the reader is led on over a trauma in the past of the heroine, did not ring true. Nor did her deep mourning for her deceased husband jive with her flirtatious behavior. The middle of the book drags along. The premise of a baby crying in the house seems tenuous at best. It was worth reading, but only just

How can an America write a book about British characters? One of the first mentions of anything British was the characters getting a "torch" from the "boot." Really? If you want a sophisticated read, this is not it. It was so bad that I never got past Chapter 2.

The book had me from the first page. Halfway through, I ordered other books by the same author.

The characters are well-developed and the plot interesting without being over-the-top. The author does a great job of describing the agnst every teenage girl experiences and then is able to show it has been compounded in this particular case. She has done a great job of making both the stepmother and the girl have good and bad sides.
