Louis Pierre Vieillot (May 10, 1748, Yvetot – August 24, 1830, Sotteville-lès-Rouen) was a French ornithologist. Vieillot is the author of the first scientific descriptions and Linnaean names of a number of birds, including species he collected himself in the West Indies and North America and South American species discovered but not formally named by Felix de Azara and his translator Sonnini de Manoncourt.

Reprint of Vieillot's classic work published in 12 parts from 1805 to 1809 under the title "Histoire Naturelle des plus Beaux Oiseaux de la Zone Torride". Louis Jean Pierre Vieillot (10 May 1748, Yvetot - 1831, Rouen) was a French ornithologist. Vieillot described a large number of birds for the first time, especially those he encountered during the time he spent in the West Indies and North America, and 26 genera established by him are still in use. He was one of the first ornithologists to study changes in plumage, and also one of the first to study live birds as well as skins.

Louis Jean Pierre Vieillot was a French ornithologist. Vieillot is the author of the first scientific descriptions and Linnaean names of a number of birds, including species he collected himself in the West Indies and North America and South American species discovered but not formally named by Azara and Sonnini. At least 26 of the genera erected by Vieillot are still in use. He was among the first ornithologists to study changes in plumage and one of the first to study live birds.

Publisher's original full black leather, spine with five raised bands, lettered in gilt on three compartments and with gilt designs in the other compartments, front and rear covers with elaborate gilt decorations, dark green marbled endpapers, all pages edges decorated in gilt, folio (13 3/4 x 11 1/4 inches). Facsimile of the magnificent plates of the rare monograph 'Histoire Naturelle des Plus Beaux Oiseaux Chanteurs de la Zone Torride' originally issued in 12 parts from 1805-1809. An English translation of the original text together with a new introduction is provided by James Clements. This Deluxe edition was limited to 1500 copies, this is copy no. 259. Printed name of Helen C. Huffman on the limitation bookplate on the front endpaper. No other ownership marks and no signs of use.
