The women s struggle for equal rights has existed throughout American history. The gaining of the women s right to vote gave women hope that someday men and women would be created equal. For thousands of years women had been denied of their rights and always. Although the women were allowed to vote, it little improved the way society portrayed women.
Gender equality requires equal enjoyment by women and men of socially-valued goods, opportunities, resources and rewards. Therefore a critical aspect of promoting gender equality is the empowerment of women, with a focus on identifying and redressing power imbalances and giving women more autonomy to manage their own lives.
Goal 5: Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls. Gender equality and women’s 9-10-07T12:27:59-04:00. Gender equality is not only a fundamental human right, but a necessary foundation for a peaceful, prosperous and sustainable world.
Literature is replete with studies on women empowerment in different parts of the world. However, little is often mentioned about the history of women empowerment struggles Nigeria. In conclusion, the paper upholds that women empowerment struggles have recorded great success across many contexts in the world, including Nigeria, although much remains to be done.
