This book is intended for people who are interested in a Common Interest Development, sometimes referred to as condos. I'm pretty sure one of the reviewers falls under the "my castle, my rules. it's a free country!" category, and therefore is not a good audience for this book...

There is quite a bit of useful information in this book, but nothing I didn't already know and/or think of on my own. I'm in the process of purchasing a condo and have done a lot of research thus far. Let me sum up this book:

Step 1: Read the CC&R's, the rule book and any/all of the documents you signed
Step 2: Buy insurance
Step 3: Resolve matters as peacefully as possible. Litigation is a last resort and everyone suffers
Step 4: If you have trouble cooperating with others, have an inherent need to paint you house black and love to break rules THAT YOU AGREED TO AND SIGNED, a condo isn't for you.

It was written by a Board member and Attorney who shared a common interest in helping people overcome misunderstandings based on a lack of education about HOAs. It has received rave reviews from owners, board members, managers and yes, realtors. Anyone who wants to know more about HOA living could benefit from reading this book.

Finding the key to your castle can not be accomplished by living in a homeowner association housing product controlled by an HOA board of King neighbors and Queen HOA lawyers.

The homeowner's real key to finding the key to their castle is being in control of their OWN castle.

The book titled, Villa Appalling! Destroying the Myth of Affordable Community Living, ([...]) written by Donie Vanitzian and Stephen Glassman is considered the homeowners "bible" and is the key that can help unlock the secrets to the homeowner association industry's desire to control your castle.

Nobody should live in a homeowner association without Villa Appalling!, or buy into an HOA without first reading it. It is over 500 pages long, and includes over 700 footnotes as well as 6 pages of homeowner worksheets.

In the last chapter titled, The Real Tragedy, it is written "The homeowner association industry has totally eclipsed the Constitutional Rights of all homeowners living in deed restricted properties."
