The Book of Armagh is a 9th-century illuminated manuscript written mainly in Latin, containing early texts relating to St Patrick and some of the oldest surviving specimens of Old Irish. It is one of the earliest manuscripts produced by an insular church to contain a near complete copy of the New Testament. The manuscript was the work of a scribe named Ferdomnach of Armagh (died 845 or 846). Ferdomnach wrote the first part of the book in 807 or 808, for Patrick's heir (comarba) Torbach. The Early Modern period: 1500–1800. The 17th century saw the tightening of English control over Ireland and the suppression of the traditional aristocracy.
Each handbook provides a verse-by-verse treatment of the biblical text. They provide readers of the New Testament with a foundational analysis of the Greek text upon which interpretation and translation may then be established.
Peter Brierley, Heather Wraight. The Atlas of World Christianity visually documents the state of the Christian church and the missionary movement worldwide, in light of the larger context of global trends and other world religions. It should prove useful to pastors and mission committees seeking ways to engage the congregation in the challenge of mission.
