I’m excited to learn about new authors and was thrilled to get a copy of Lindi Peterson’s new book that takes place in the Atlanta area. I loved the light hearted fun style this author wrote Her Best Catch; which is about Allison Doll and her thirty something friends.

Lindi grabbed me from the first line, “They say fifty is the new thirty. Which means in a couple of months when my mother turns fifty we’ll be almost the same age…..” I don’t know about you but I've got a smile on my face already.

I haven’t read a book that gave a sneak peek into what it’s like to walk in the shoes of a thirty something group of Christian kids. She also gives a peek into what they talk about in Sunday School classes and what they do on mission trips.

Ashton Boyd, a famous pitcher, starts going to Allison’s church and their singles ministry events. He takes a liking to Allison but she wonders if it’s for the right reasons. This group accepted Ashton with his fun personality and seeking heart at face value and includes him in all they do even with the media on his tale. There are some funny moments because of this and I liked how Lindi handled them. I liked how Lindi talked about healthy boundaries in relationships. Not many books address this.
Lindi Peterson writes a fun slice of life story that deals with relationships on many levels and forms. What happens to relationships within a group that’s been together forever and they start coupling off. What does that look like and how does that change the dynamic of the group. What happens to a girl friends relationship when one of the friends gets into a serious relationship with a male? After the death of a spouse, how does the relationship change between the mother and daughter? I appreciated this author’s honesty and well timed humor when talking about these matters. Finally how does anyone find the “one” person that’s just right for them to marry? It may sounds complicated but this book was up beat and fun!

Want a great summer read that will make you smile, and laugh out-loud? I highly recommend this light-hearted yet insightful book about relationships from a Christian world view. I adored it!

I’m thankful for the review copy of a book that answers the question, “What does it mean when someone says; God has healed me from the inside out? How can I let God touch the hurts in my heart and be healed?”

Denise says, “You can only live with your heart shut down for so long. Eventually you will fight for your healing or you will die… Some even find God when their lives fall apart!....Sometimes a person has to die in order to really live. ..Hungry for something real?.. (tired of just going through the motions of life and feeling numb inside?) Want to feel alive? Seek whatever helps you rediscover that carefree childlike heart I know is in there somewhere – that is what you should be doing to Feel Alive!”

This is a walk Denise’s characters have gone on and/or just started down the path. I enjoyed this cast so much, they are fun, bold and each have been knocked around by life. Each has a different result and story to tell.

Scarlett Jo is a Pastor’s wife that’s fun and doesn’t care what people think about her. Denise writes, “Scarlett Jo hadn’t simply survived her life. She had learned how to live in spite of it- and not to worry too much about the perceptions of others.”

Scarlett Jo is fun loving, free spirited and an inspirational person! I loved her voice and her outlook on life she says, “Oh, child do you not know about couponing?...I’m feeding a pack of wolves at my house. If I didn’t know how to coupon, my children would have had to eat me by now. But if you ever want to learn how to do it, you just let me know. It is crazy girl! I can go to a store and leave and they’ve paid me money.” (I want to learn – teach me! Teach Me! Grin!)

The characters in this novel welcome you in as family. They’re situations will tug at your heart. What I love about Denise’s books are this, you’ll be having a good time reading then all of a sudden she cleverly interweaves spiritual truths that pierce your heart, make you stop and think. Denise will help you “See lies you believe.” You’ll laugh out loud and get teary eyed in parts of this story, a winning combination.

I really liked Scarlett Jo’s husband too he says, “I watch people. I take in people. And to be honest, I learn a great deal about them by what they don’t say.”

I highly recommend this novel and the non-fiction companion book called Reclaiming your Heart! It’s a win win combination. A book you’ll want to put on your summer reading list. Did I mention I just love the cover of this book too! It’s a keeper!

I’ve already read other books by Lindi Peterson, but the first few sentences of this one served a great reminder why I love her easygoing style. With a best friend Velvet and fifty-going-on-sixteen mother celebrating her birthday with Bubba Bob’s Barbecue, we get a great stage set for Allison Doll to finally stop waiting for her life to happen and start living it.

Lindi’s characters always feel so real, and this story is no exception. Allison is very relatable, and I loved living inside her head, watching her reactions to people and seeing her chide herself when she had thoughts that weren’t so kind.

My favorite part was the humor, but I also loved how the book was unapologetically Christian and reminded us that even though there are a lot of people out there living in willful sin, there are still some of us out there trying to devote ourselves to purity and truth. Very well done.

Sweet romance, a quick and entertaining read—I give it five stars without reservation.

I knew this was a religious book before I read it, so I expected "God" talk, however there was little story-line to back it up and what there was, didn't come across as very adult.

The main character, Allison, - for a thirty-year old woman - was "whiningly" conflicted over the rather colourless Ashton.
I was aggravated by Allison's penchant for listening to her close friends who stick their noses into the relationship to the point where she cans something to which she was looking forward, purely on their say-so.

The mother and grandmother's romantic interests didn't ring true. The mother dumping a man just because he suggests a weekend away (separate rooms of course) and just "knows" that's not what he meant, was silly, as was the heroine trying to keep granny's romance secret (at the age of 70, mind you) from her mother - in case her mother went ballistic.

Rather juvenile set up all round.
