Book 2 of 3 in the Ladies of the Manor Series. Rowena is reluctant to marry this notorious flirt. And when she learns that Brice is mixed up in some kind of questionable business with a stolen treasure, she fears she'll end up in more danger than she fled. Praise for the Ladies of the Manor series. White's latest is a complex series of twists, turns and excitement. Readers who are fans of Downton Abbey will love the scenes divided between the upper crust and the downstairs staff and the interplay between those two very different worlds.

Brice Myerston, the Duke of Nottingham, has found himself in possession of a rare treasure his enemies are prepared to kill for. While Brice has never been one to shy away from manor-born ladies, the last thing he needs is the distraction of Lady Rowena, who finds herself in a desperate situation. But when Rowena's father tries to trap Brice into marrying his daughter, Brice makes a surprising decision.

The Reluctant Duchess is the second novel in Roseanna White's Ladies Of the Manor Trilogy. We first met Brice, the Duke of Nottingham in The Lost Heiress, book one. He now has possession of the Tiger eyes, a perfect pair of red diamonds. Rowena is a broken woman who was recently attacked by a young Lord who only wants her title. The Reluctant Duchess is a tale of love and betrayal. I loved how Ro The Reluctant Duchess is the second novel in Roseanna White's Ladies Of the Manor Trilogy.

The Reluctant Duchess is the second book in Roseanna M. White’s Ladies of the Manor series, coming after The Lost Heiress. I have been a huge fan of Roseanna’s ever since I stumbled upon her Culper Ring series a couple of years ago, so I was extremely excited when she started this series.

Roseanna M. White has succeeded in delivering another thrilling novel! From the beginning White had me hooked. Even after the first chapter you will find it incredibly hard to put the novel down. The Fire Eyes are once again causing a ruckus, and between that and the things Rowena has to deal with you will be kept on edge.

It was a perfect blend of truth, romance, mystery and suspense. I thoroughly enjoyed myself and got lost within its pages. The characters were all well written, and have me eager for Book 3, yearning to meet up with them again.

There is a beautiful thread of truth woven throughout this tale. One that was perfectly timed for me by God. In my private devotional time and study of the Word, as well as in circumstances in my life, God has been speaking to me and teaching me about these truths. This book was just reinforcing those truths in a beautiful and heartfelt way. The truth that God is sovereign and God is good; that He is with us even in the times that seem dark, and He is working things together for our good. Also, our God is BIG and He can do anything, don't put Him in a box. Trust God and be open to the opportunities He has for you, the moments He wants you to look for Him and invite Him to step in and do more than you can imagine.

So to sum it all up... This was an absolutely wonderful novel! I cannot wait for Book 3 to be out! Mrs. White has found a fan in me!

...and it was lovely. I picked up a hard copy of it at the mall, looking for a break from my usual reading and was delighted with the characters and story. I hadnt realized it was the second book in a series so after I read it, I bought "The Lost Heiress" and wasnt disappointed. This book is complex in its portrayal of sin and abuse and how we can overcome these things with Gods help. Other reviewers commented that these scenes could be a "trigger." This book portrays realistic life circumstances and how to work through them. Having gone through some painful things myself, I will say that if you're still dealing with triggers then the healing isn't yet complete and this book might not be for you...yet. Sometimes the rain hits and just keeps pounding until we think we cant take it anymore and this author did a brilliant job of not sugar coating that reality. I appreciated this book and it succeeded where so many Christian romance novels fail. They never seem to tackle real, hard subjects...like how to trust again after being betrayed...or how God could possibly turn something bad to our good. This author handled it truthfully and with redemptive purpose. I cant wait for the next book to release in September. Looking forward to Caytons complex character to come to life!

This is the first series I have read from this author and I am just in love with the series and have so much respect for the author. Still haven't read number 3, but plan to soon, and hope to read her other books as well. I love hearing the background the author includes, that these characters and stories are ones she created when she was "a young lass", and developed with the help of others over the years. This book and main character were done very well, especially on a very sensitive subject (I recommend this as a maybe teenage(+) reading?), not hiding the facts or downplaying them, often trailing off as to not go into too much detail, but not hiding the struggle and fight of darkness verses light. Maybe it's because I could identify with the thought process believing lies over truth, and what a battle that truly is, discovering the nearness of God and the power He truly has. Can't say enough good things and definitely recommend!
Note to the author (if author's even read amazon reviews...):
These few minor things kept going through my head so I thought I'd share, but all said in great respect with a heart to help. I will keep this as coded as possible to not spoil anything for readers ;)
Near the end of the book, I was under a misunderstanding of what exactly the plan of "character #1" was hoping to carry through when #1 made their mind up to go into #2's room. I found out a few chapters later that the plan I thought had been carried through had not been the case. As a reader, the intents and details were misinterpreted, but enjoyed how it fell into place a few chapters later (made me smile).
Second, if I read it correctly, at the time near the end when Antagonist #1 planned Antagonist #2 to come and create a distraction, #1 wouldn't have known that they would possess the details they needed at the time of the distraction. The details came into hand of #1 only a few hours before the distraction took place. Does that make sense? Maybe it is a misunderstanding that is answered in the next book, but thought I'd mention it here while it was on my mind.
Lastly, also near the end of the story, as much as I love the "perfect" character, I feel that especially as a man faced with struggle, to wrestle with the emotions and anger he must have had, and all His questions with God, that to make him more real-life, that he would choose a more physically active approach than the sitting and contemplating that he did. Maybe a long, brisk walk outside in the gardens or woods? Pacing? Some kind of physical display of his desperation during a moment when he must have felt exactly that: desperate, wrestling with emotions, and in need of God. Just to be able in his private time to show some weakness , or rather honesty, with the turmoil he must have felt.
Just some thoughts on some minor things, and all meant to be a help, not tear down. I have so much respect for you as an author and look forward to reading more of your books!

This book is amazing. I was hooked from the first page and never wanted to stop reading.
It’s taken me a while to get to this book. I read the first one and then the third one and have finally gotten to this one (it’s the second).
The good news is you can read them all independently of each other and still enjoy each book.
Rowena is a somewhat meek character but yet she isn’t. She does stand up for herself and tries to fight back. But she doesn’t’ think very highly of herself. I think many of us can relate to her. She believes she will never be good enough for anyone.
Brice was a favorite of mine in the first book so I was happy to be able to spend some more time with him in this book. I love his relationship with the Lord and how he hears God’s voice and is sensitive to the Holy Spirit’s nudges. We could all learn a thing or two from him.
The relationship doesn’t start off ideal at all but I couldn’t wait to see how these two very different people would fall in love.
The mystery of the Fire Eyes continues in this book as well, which will keep you turning pages.
I highly recommend this one.
