Death of a Liturgist features the return of Francesca Bibbo, the irrepressible heroine of Death in the Choir

Death of a Liturgist book. After her first book Death in the Choir, Lorraine Murray delivers another cozy mystery in this second in her Francesca Bibbo series, Death of a Liturgist.

Death of a Liturgist book. After grieving the death of her husband, widowed Francesca has carved a comfortable place for herself in her St Rita’s’ parish. She answers the phone at the rectory, sings in the choir and has even started dating handsome detective Tony Viscardi. But a lot of new changes are happening at St Rita’s. A new pastor is taking over.

Death of a Liturgist features the return of Francesca Bibbo, the irrepressible heroine of Death in the Choir. Join her and the rest of St. Rita's eccentric crew, including Sister Therese, Detective Tony Viscardi, and Ignatius the Hamster (with a little help from the archbishop, too), as they try to solve the mystery and make St. Rita's safe for tradition again. New from Saint Benedict Press.

Francesca Bibbo is eager to jumpstart her social life, so she joins the choir at St. Rita's. This is a little gem of a book (I only say "little" because these days a lot of mysteries sprawl on for far too many pages: this is just the right length). It arrived about 11:00 . I won't discuss the plot, as the "blurb" says everything you need to know without giving the game away, but what impressed me most was the well-rounded characters (even the pets!).

Lorraine Viscardi Murray (born 1947) is an American author and columnist. She has also written two mystery novels, Death in the Choir and Death of a Liturgist. She is married to Tolkien artist Jef Murray.

Explorations In Personality. PSYCHOLOGY, Philosophy of mind.

Some people are just dying for change...

St. Rita's was a vibrant suburban church whose parishioners liked things on the traditional side: old-fashioned hymns from the choir and no-nonsense preaching from the priests, pious devotions in the chapel and warm pastries in the rectory kitchen. All that ended the day the liturgist arrived.

He promised to bring the parish up to date, to get more people to participate, to make the Mass more appealing to the tastes of modern Catholics. But all he did was make enemies; it seems St. Rita's wasn't ready to sing a new church into being quite yet. So when the liturgist turned up dead, under violent and mysterious circumstances, everyone was a suspect.

I REALLY enjoyed this book and this whole series! I sometimes go to Decatur GA so the feel of that was very authentic. I do love a good murder mystery and especially ones involving a priest, vicar, or monastery. I enjoy the main characters, Francesca and Tony. Fun read!

If you attend a post Vatican 2 church, you will appreciate the humorously drawn characters who work at the parish office in this mystery tale. All too accurate, in some cases!
Also, there is a whiff of a Fr Brown mystery here, with a rollicking good story and a thoughtful message about how to live out our vocations--whether clergy or laity.

Another good book in the Francesca Bibbo series. I enjoyed Death in the Choir so much that I wanted to read this one and the next one too. The characters and flawed and believable. No perfect princesses in Murray's series. It is easier to relate to them.
Kemath
I'll have to read the other one "Choir" to form an opinion on the author's skills. One book does not define an author.

I enjoyed Death of a Liturgist, probably because I, too, am a liturgist, choir director, organist. I could really relate to the 'problems' of the characters, especially when it spoke of different music styles and selections. While, not a great, earth-shattering novel, the story was light and it was fun to see how it played out.
Nidor
This is the first novel by this author that I read. Enjoyed the description of personalities and the mystey. I planned to look for another novel by this author.
Zorve
I hope the author continues to write more short novels in this style. Musician's need a good book that's based on them once in awhile :)
would read more by this author - enjoyed this book - very topical as changes in Church are on going
