We desperately need to see the world outside of the box of the Hegelian left (Socialism) or the Hegelian right (fascism). Catholic ethics applied to the economy is one possible answer. Pesch describes the main problem in a modern capitalist economy, usury, in a much broader sense than we have been accustomed to, but it rings true. His main assertion about the left is that when a false equality is imposed upon society in communism/socialism, liberty is destroyed. I have no argument with his main points, or that the Catholic system which emphasizes the well-being and dignity of the worker is a lot better than either of the false paradigms than either side of the current political spectrum provides us with. It is a great read. Highly recommend it.

This is an excellent and thought provoking book that all Catholics need to read. It speaks even more poignantly to our tines.

And if you want to know why and find some other basis for perspective then this is a good beginning. Society makes markets to serve the needs of society and always has. Men and women are not created to serve markets despite what Marx thought and his followers still do. Most Americans have swallowed American proproganda in a number of areas-why do you think governments like government schools?
The book is in translation. Lucky us. We still don't have the last book from the Gulag translated yet-Two Hundred Years Among Us and why is that?

This book on Catholic social teaching should be in every educated person's home. It is a great place to start on understanding why capitalism and socialism both fail. Written almost a century ago, its insights are valuable for us today who see both systems failing us.
