The edition/printing that I received is not the one shown in the Amazon listing "Look Inside." I have an older copy which I wanted to replace and I used my old copy to verify that the Amazon one was the same before purchasing it. Look Inside was the same as my older copy.

BUT that's not the printing I received. The received book has unattractive shiny paper. Fewer words per page so generating more pages and a VERY heavy book. The page layout also forced the placement of drawings in wrong points in the story. Also used some funky typefaces that get in the way a clean page. Why did Dutton think they should simplify (fewer words per page) the book and why doesn't Amazon show the actual book you will receive?

I purchased this book after listening to an iTunes audio-book done my Peter Dennis. This book and iTunes recording hold the attention of my 5 and 6 year old boys much longer than the Disney rendering of the same characters. There are parts to the story that are very much missed in the Disney versions of the characters. We now read these stories every night before bed, and and some point both of my kids are rolling with laughter. The pictures in the book are mostly black and white, though a few are in full color. This does not in any way hamper our enjoyment. It took a little time to adapt to the period language that is in these ORIGINAL stories. So, you may at times have to explain to the children what is happening. For instance, he refers to things like "India ink." I see these times as wonderful opportunities to converse with my children and have them guess what it might be, or what A.A. Milne was describing. We love the characters, we come up with tunes to Pooh's songs, and create our own "enchanted places." Since this book contains all the Pooh stories, it is really a "bang for your buck," and would make a great gift for families with young children who may never have otherwise known the original characters.

My daughter is obsessed with the old Disney version of the Pooh stories, and even at barely 2 years old she wanted me to read this book over and over. There are so many picture books based off of Pooh that are complete dreck, and it's incredibly refreshing to read the light whimsy of the original.

I'm posting this review just to make it extra clear for anyone considering this for a younger child - there are a few full color inserts in this version, but the majority of the illustrations are still in black and white. Still a lovely version, but I was hoping for it to be more completely colorized.

This book consists of the original books "Winnie the Pooh" and "The House at Pooh Corner" by A. A. Milne, bound together. The stories are wonderful and whimsical, and I believe they are worth five stars, as are the inkline illustrations by Ernest Shepard (who Milne though was the best artist for the job, and who drew Christopher Robin from life). Several pictures in full color, also by Shepard, grace this book. (The original line drawings are from the 1920s, the color pictures from the 1950s.) In particular I like the physical quality of the book. It is beautifully printed on high quality paper which is rugged enough for young children, and it is sewn in signatures, which makes the book both easy to open and strong enough to withstand many readings. Sadly, I cannot say the same about the boxed set of four Pooh books, whose printing is mediocre, and whose binding is a poor glue job. Given the choice between the boxed set on the one hand, and "The World of Pooh" and "The World of Christopher Robin" on the other, I would recommend choosing the "World" books.

The only disappointment (seriously a minor gripe because it is still just as adorable) is the book jacket and hard cover is not as shown on here (which is how I remember the now lost hardcover books I had as a little dude).

I bought this primarily for me (23 years old) and secondly for my yet to be but very very soon nephew. The book is beautiful and has a great weighted feeling. They are colored in the most pleasant way and all the illustrations that are beside the stories are in Black and White (just like I remember them as a kid)! This book is gorgeous and I'm going to keep this in the family for a generation.

This is not the disney version but the real deal! :) <3

I'll have a permanent smile on my face because of this book and because I will finally get to know Christopher better from " The World of Christopher Robin: The Complete When We Were Very Young and Now We Are Six " The only story set missing is "The Return to Hundred Acre Wood" if your are really after all of it.

I also recommend the Tao of Pooh and The Te of Piglet for those who like a bit of philosophy, humor, and childhood. It displays a slight spin on Pooh that you would have missed, even if you looked for it. That's somewhat of what Taoism and its wisdom. Check it out here:

This book contains unabridged versions of Winnie-the-Pooh and The House at Pooh Corner complemented by full color watercolor illustrations and the classic black and white pictures of Ernest Shepard. Pooh is a wonderful book both for children and adults; everyone should read the whole collection at least once in their lives though once you read it once you'll find yourself returning time and time again to follow the adventures of the lovable bear with very little brain. Though this hard volumed book is very well made and generally convenient it's large size and heaviness can make it cumbersome at times such as when reading in bed.
