I have six small grandchildren, so I bought this book to be kept at my house for when they are here. I love that this story is told by Santa and quickly gets to the point of the real meaning of Christmas, the birth of Jesus. Explaining to the woodland animals that "love was the gift God gave to us on the first Christmas, and it still is." It briefly tells of Santa going out on Christmas Eve to deliver presents without mentioning all the details of, flying through the air on his sleigh or coming down the chimney to fill stockings by the fireplace. If you're trying to teach the real meaning of Christmas without taking Santa to of the story, this is a good book to use. The pictures are simple and are painted in muted tones. The story is short so even wiggly little ones will not have a hard time sitting to listen. My two first grade grandchildren can read this book with a bit of help but I think past that age should have no problem reading it on their own.

I absolutely love this Christmas Story. Santa falls asleep in the woods and the animals are afraid that he will miss Christmas. When Santa wakes up he tells the animals his favorite Christmas story which is the story of the birth of Jesus. I give this book to a lot of families with little ones.

I had read a blog suggesting this book, raving about how it’s a great way to really explain the meaning of Christmas to children and what Christmas is all about. I was a little disappointed to be honest. While the story is fine and the illustrations are cute, it just wasn't really what I was expecting. I felt that it could have gone a little further in explaining how the birth of Christ ties into Christmas.

I love that this story ties in the tradition of Santa and why we celebrate Christmas. It's just what I needed to remind my kiddos that while Santa is an important tradition, we have a much deeper reason for celebrating that is even more important. It was a huge hit and one that will be read every Christmas.

This book is a nice mix of Santa and the story of Jesus. I like that it brings both worlds together. The pictures are beautiful too. My kids (2 and 5) enjoy it. It's going to be a Christmas tradition from now on. Some people reviewing were upset that it's not the full story of the birth of Jesus, but I like it for very young children.

This book is a reverent nod to the true meaning of Christmas. I purchased this for my six year old daughter as a "gift from Santa" and she was delighted to discover that Santa loves Jesus as much as she does.

This is a wonderful book. In a terribly materialistic world, I love the fact that Santa explains how there is a gift that is far greater than any gift he could give. This book is a keeper and I have recommended this book to ALL of my friends
One of the best Christmas stories I've read! If you believe the birth of Christ is the true meaning of Christmas this is the book for you! The watercolor illustrations add to the simplicity of the story, as told to animals.
