I think it was that white cat that scared them away. I take my hands from my face, wondering where the cat is now. I don’t see her. The look on the hawks’ eyes as they dove for me was mean. The look on the hawks’ eyes as they dove for me was mean cks on my arms, little torn pieces of skin, and one hawk ripped a hunk of my hair. My wrist is bleeding. I mean seriously, those birds wanted to kill me. What did I do wrong? This is so completely unfair. I need to find Mouse and Finn. We need to get out of here

Questions can be tricky things. Everyone has their own way of dealing with them. India Tompkins can charm her way out of answering most of them. Finn Tompkins is too quiet to be asked in the first place. And Mouse Tompkins? She’s a genius—she’s used to having all the answers. But when they find themselves trapped in Falling Bird—a city seemingly without logic—the Tompkins kids are facing a whole slew of impossible questions, all demanding answers, and not even Mouse knows how to solve these. How do you find your way home when you aren’t even on the map? What’s the fastest way to wrap your brain around a problem when time itself keeps getting away from you? And if your life at home wasn’t perfect, can you be sure you really want to go back?

I've seen this book compared to Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, but I think that a poor comparison. I'd say Alice in Wonderland or even Coraline would be a better match. It's a mixture of fantasy, thriller and dystopia.

Honestly, even though the last chapter does explain why the book was so confusing, I really didn't enjoy it as much as I thought I would. The story is disjointed, and while, yes the final chapter explains why, I feel like there are still unanswered questions that have left me confused.

Was Falling Bird a real place? Or was it a sort of Purgatory? Or the tunnel that takes you to the white light at the end of your life? Or was it simply a dream concocted as a coping mechanism? And if it was, why did all three kids dream exactly the same dream?

I found myself annoyed with the book throughout most of the middle of the story. And even thought I felt like it had a clever ending, I'm still unsure of how I feel about the book as a whole. It was good and kids may enjoy it. But I felt like it could have been a whole lot better.

Here's how I feel about this book: when my son lent our copy to his elementary-school teacher, and then never got it back before moving on to middle school, I HAD to order another copy. In hardcover. If you can imagine a book that has the crazy imagination of Alice in Wonderland and the menace and dread of A Wrinkle in Time, but is more modern and zips along faster than either of those, you'll have a pretty good sense for No Passengers Beyond This Point.

If you want a book for middle-school level readers (even if only in 4th grade) or upper-elementary listeners that will have them and/or you turning the pages eagerly and anxiously, with a lot of "What the HECK??" and a few "UH oh!" reactions along the way, this is the book for you!

I bought it to read to my grandsons because we enjoyed the "Al Capone does my...." series by this author. It wasn't as good as those, but it did deal with some social issues that were relevant to our family. Not bad, but not great like the other works.

Very good story and my 8th grade students identified with the charcters. I thought the ending was beautiflly written, but there were parts of the story where I would have like more details of what the world looked like and a few points where I would have liked more about what the characters were thinking or why they were doing what they did. Overall, very good book.

I really liked the way that the reader could not figure out why the childre were being kept at that town yntil the end, it kept me reading it until I was able to finish it. It is hard for a child to understand the outcome.

This is not the type of book I usually enjoy, but there are twists and turns in it that make you want to keep reading. It is on the list for the Maryland Black Eyed Susan award for this year which is why I read. I think students who like fantasy will enjoy this book.
I liked this book because of all the amazing events that happen. My favorite part is when they all get to falling bird and Chuck picks them up at the airport, it's cool how the pink feathered taxi cab feels like you are flying above the ground.
