Similarly, The Girl with the Broken Wing, takes readers to a magical world where angels appear on Earth, in quite a relaxed manner, and full of optimism, to live the common human life.

Heather Dyer visited our school recently, and we read this as a class book as a result. My class of Year 4 children loved this book, as did I. It wasn't obvious, it actually expected children to think about what the book was really about, and I think that this elevates it to a higher status in my eyes. Few books for children of this age group have high expectations of their readers - for this, Heather Dyer should be heartily congratulated. 15 people found this helpful.

Dyer creates a comic early-chapter book where the engaging humor is intensified by Amanda and James's perplexity as they scramble to protect their clueless "angel. They can't go to an adult for help because the adults won't believe and are silly about practicalities. Warm and funny revelations show the bored child-angel stuck in an eternity of too much hymn singing and do-gooding, exuberantly trying to participate in normal everyday fun before she has to go home.

About Heather Dyer A good chapter book for newly confident readers. Gillian Engberg PW 10/24/05 The Girl with the Broken Wing Heather Dyer, illus.

Heather is author of the fun and comical The Fish in Room 11, which was published in 2004 by Chicken House. A good chapter book for newly confident readers.

Twins Amanda and James are awakened in the middle of the night by an otherworldly sound. Getting up to investigate, they discover Hilary, a girl who says she has a broken wing. Narrator Alison Reid contrasts the twins-excitable James and placid Amanda-as well as creates vocal portraits of mischievous Hilary and the twins' very ordinary parents. Soon she graces the school's Christmas pageant as a real flying angel.

While this is a children's book, it was a present for an adult. The only disappointment was it was not in hardcover. That would have been more fitting for an adult. It arrived in like new condition.

My granddaughter loved this book. She is 8 years old and needed very little help in reading. She loved the story.

Do you believe in angels? One day, Hillary showed up on the roof of Amanda and James, who are twins. Hillary is crazy and clumsy. She had wings but one of them was broken. Throughout her wing recovery, she stayed with them. The twins try to figure out her identity and why Hillary was here.

Hillary has adventures with the twins and discovers the world. Hillary is not who they were thinking. Will you find out Hillary’s secret? You will have to read the book to find out!

This book was really great and had a good lesson. It told me I can’t judge a book by it’s cover. You really have to learn about somebody by getting to know them. I would give this book a four star rating. I would recommend this book if you are looking for something heartfelt.

It wasn't hard to figure out where Hilary came from -- you could tell that she was going somewhere else -- but you can never really know where she's going. But you have a sense that wherever she's going, we can't go, because you have to have wings because it's up in the sky. I liked the characters. I liked that Hilary could only read picture writing. And I liked that she took James and Amanda flying. (Anna, age 8)

Fantastic, this book was quite exciting. Hilary got up to lots of mischief which was interesting to read. My favourite character was probably Hilary as she always annoys James ,just like my little brother annoys me. For me the best part was where James got splatted in paint.I would recommend this book for 6+.
