Peace Begins with You book. The major turnoff for me is that this book is thoroughly didactic - Robert R. Ingpen is one of my favourite illustrators and this is the main reason I'd picked up a copy of this book from a little free library. As a children's picture book, Peace Begins with You is a comprehensive book on peace. It talks about inner peace, world peace, big conflicts, small conflicts, mediators, etc. It talks about needs and wants and how conflicts arise.

The author, Katherine Scholes, begins the story at a personal level by talking about how peace feels in our everyday lives. The choices we make affect not only us as individuals, but also the world as a whole.

Yes, this book is for both children and grown-ups who are interested in the subject of Peace. The book is to the point and precise in explaining how conflict comes about and how it is possible to resolve it and bring about peace. It is a very simple and still really profound book

Yes, this book is for both children and grown-ups who are interested in the subject of Peace. It is a very simple and still really profound book. If you are using it for very young children, you will have to further illustrate the points that are made by the author but this book is excellent in explaining in detail how conflict happens and teaching exactly what needs to be done to achieve peace.

Explains, in simple terms, the concept of peace, why conflicts occur, how they can be resolved in positive ways, and how to protect peace.

This is a great book for children and adults. Furnishes strategies/ideas of how others have resolved conflicts, as well as the rationale and consequences of conflicts. Easy to read. When children begin to question fairness and how to arrive at a fair resolutions this book could help.

It's okay. In decent shape.

I love the illustrations. This book is a big part of our Montessori class climate. It came before school started and is in our Peace Corner.

If you are using it for very young children, you will have to further illustrate the points that are made by the author but this book is excellent in explaining in detail how conflict happens and teaching exactly what needs to be done to achieve peace. It teaches children (and adults) to take responsibility for oneself, for others and for peace in our world. It also addresses children maturely as it explains real situations when peace is impossible to be achieved without everyone's cooperation. An excellent book for those who are truly seeking to understand and teach peace!

For a book written in 1989...pre Bush Terror...[both Father and Son]....I sure wish their Grandfather would of read them this book!
But, alas, he did not....and look what a mess we are in.
This book is perfect for a Read-Aloud for kids and adults...
The illustrations are so soft and real and artistic....
The wording is so crafted....and calm.
A true Treasure indeed....
but since there is limited financial profit in Peace....it will be relegated to just a cutsy book for kids....which it is not!
This book is a book of substance....Diamonds are small and pure and so is this book.
thank you...

A book NO for children, full of distubing illustrations .
World is FUll of beauty, art , music, ideas, and more, that is the real world that children need to know about.
Wars, plagues, fake intellectuals and the so , fly around us for thousand of years. That IS too a real world.
Make disturbing illustrations for a children book, surely give prizes and fame to illustrators but do not make chidren lifes any better
And a thousand flies around something do not means that 'something'is good.Critics and fake intellectuals are anytime flying around something.
Very liberal. Good message but a bit biased. I read 1 time to my son, explained peace and peace within and shelved to book. We believe in personal accountability around here...
