Martin's wonderful writing talent.

The Baby-sitters Club was my idea and, if I may say so, it was a pretty good one. Actually, the club is a business. The members meet three times a week on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday afternoons from five-thirty until six. During the meetings, parents call us to line up baby-sitters for their kids. With seven of us to answer the phone, the parents are bound to find a sitter with just one telephone call.

Chapter 1. "Plie first pozeetion, plie second pozee-tion - nice and slowly - plie sird pozeetion, plie fourse pozeetion - veeerry slowly - plie fifs pozeetion. However, we do have our differences. As you know, I want to be a ballerina one day (I think), but Mal wants to be an author and illustrator of children's books.

The Baby-sitters Club meets on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, Mom," I said. I pulled out my math book and sat down with a sigh. I'm not crazy about math the way Maria is, but I do well in school and that's important to me. So I concentrated pretty intensely that afternoon. My mom nodded and smiled. Some people think my mother and I look alike, but I think she and Tiffany look more alike. When I finally stood up to take a break over an hour had passed. I looked out the window. Tiffany was still in the garden. She wasn't digging now.

Abby's Book is the last of the six Portrait Collection books published by Scholastic from 1994-1997. So, I guess this makes me an official SMS student - I'm writing my autobiography just like every other eighth-grader here. This hasn't been easy. It's a big job, plus it's very emotional for me. Looking through all the family photos has made me remember some pretty difficult times.

Abby, the newest member of the Baby-sitters Club, looks back on four important episodes from her earlier years, including the time when she and her identical twin sister color-coded themselves so that people could tell them apart. Original.

Abby is a neat character who is optimistic in the face of the terrible tragedy of losing her dad. Also her mom is courageous and strong in dealing with her grief of widowhood. A real departure from many books about single-mother families. So many traditional books portray the single mother as being always financially struggling, miserable, and chronically lonely and waiting for another husband to "rescue" her from her woes and paint the kids as being either in trouble or "deprived" and longing for a dad "replacement." Abby's family goes through the normal grieving process, mourns appropriately, then slowly, realistically bit by bit, pick up their lives and survive and emerge closer than ever. I like how Rachel is stable financially so she doesn't have to worry about being able to support her daughters and doesn't pine around for another husband. The twin relationship between Abby and Anna is fascinating and realistic also. They're twins, yet not clones.

I think it was a great book. Ann M. Martin did a wonderful job of showing emotions, especially when Abby's father died. I could really picture Abby sitting in the principals office, and inisant 4th grader and hearing the shoking news that her father was gone. You feel like you become the charachter, which shows Ann M. Martin's wonderful writing talent. One of the bad things though, is that it doesn't seem very realistic for a person to write a biography in one weekend. I know from experience that a teacher always catches glitches and you have to write it at least twice. Other than that, it was a good book.

I love this book, it has to be my favorite book of all time. Abby is the new girl in town and she moved her from Long Island with her mom and twin sis, Anna.

Anyways Abby is made to write a bio about her life for English. I seriously think this is the best one out of the Portrait Collection. Abby is so down to earth, humorous, and down right honest it's hard not to like her.

There are painful siturations in the book such as the details of her father's death, and the way she and her family handled it. It was with such honestly, you felt for Abby really bad espeically if you lost someone you truly and honestly love.

The hightlights of the book were whenever her family decided to go to Florida for Winter Break, and they althrough started out in seperate ways, but ended up retelling their favorite holiday stories, and creating new ways to celebrate the holidays together as a new family.

If you haven't read this book you should have. You will not be dissappointed. The way the book was written you find it hard not to like Abby especially after all the tragic situration her and her family had to endure, makes her a winner in all levels.

This book was so sad, it went into alot of detail about Abby's dad's death and how her mum never really gets over it (well, thats my impression) and how and how she went through everything. You really start to feel bad for Abby in the end! Read it if you like serious books, but not if you dont!

This book has a moving but funny, touching but interesting story about a girl who lost her father when she was young, loves to baby-sit, adores sports and has a twin sister. I loved it!
