Very easy book to follow! It's a must have!

This book is a nice and basic book on teaching students to write decent paragraphs. Students learn how to narrow down their topic, stick to the topic at hand, work on interesting leads, transition words, and thesis statements. It is a book I can use from the beginning to the end.

Great tool to teach writing in a step-by-step for paragraphs.

This book has only 9 lessons, but they are to the point and effective. I am using it with my 5th and 8th grade homeschoolers to work on putting research notes into outline form before writing research papers. It is a review for the 8th grader and primary teaching for the 5th grader. Highly recommended even though it is very short! (i.e., don't pay more than about $5 for it)

Section 1: Understanding a Paragraph
Lesson 1: Paragraph Construction
Lesson 2: Taking Notes in Outline Form
Lesson 3: Outlines and Parallel Construction
Lesson 4: Signal Words (what most sources would call 'transitions')
Lesson 5: Types of Paragraphs
The Enumerative Paragraph (developing the topic by providing examples)
The Sequence Paragraph (a how-to description)
The Cause-Effect Paragraph
The Comparison/Contrast Paragraph
The Descriptive Paragraph
Lesson 6: More Detailed Outline Form (Main Topic, Subtopics, Supporting Details, Additional Details)

Section 2: Writing Paragraphs
Lesson 7: Using Notes to Write Paragraphs (i.e., the notes you have learned to take in outline form!)
Lesson 8: Using Signal Words (again, transitions)

I quite like this book and I do use it with my Year 5/6 class. The examples provided were useful and easy to understand and it would be better to have more examples. Obviously, this is not suitable for the younger ones.
