I have been a long-time Harriet the Spy fan and didn't know about this book till recently. I loved reading more about Sport and his relationship with his dad. Once again, I was captured by Louise Fitzhugh's ability to take a collection of eccentric themes and apply them to everyday life. Her adult characters are not without fault, and I appreciate finding this in a children's book. I think it allows a reader to apply reasoning and deductive skills about the adults he may know in his own life and conclude: "Adults are not always right."

In this book each adult has his or her own agenda and Sport is caught up in the best of them. I loved the sequence of events leading to show how Sport's mom ends up pursuing custody. In my own life, I know a situation where a mother abducted the children to keep them away from their father, and in my personal life, the legal battle did not result in such a satisfying ending.

I found Lisa to be a welcome character to allow Sport a reprieve from his duties, although my 2013 brain would have liked to have seen Sport and Lisa work out a list of chores for Sport to contribute to his household in a way that would lead to Sport feeling valued and appreciated in his home, since it's obvious that Sport doesn't really resent doing housework.

Louise Fitzhugh took on discussing issues in the 1970s and portrayed them in a very meaningful way that has led Harriet the Spy to become one of the most well-known books of that generation. I'd like to think that her perspective led a lot of children to believe they were much more capable than they had previously thought. I know I did. In Sport, it was nice to be jarred by how Sport's non-white friends are perceived by his racist mother in this era. Thank goodness, times have changed for many people!

I like this book because it is very "what will happen next?" And it is very good. I only rated it at four stars because there is blanked out swearing and boring parts

The book arrived together in top condition. New, as described.

One of my favorite childhood books, I purchased it so my 11- and 13-year olds could enjoy it as I had. Of course, I then had to read the book again myself.

My 10-year-old son read this book to tatters, so I bought him a Kindle version. A bad word or two but nothing shocking. Fun!
DEAD-SHOT
Not as engaging as the first two in this series but my 10 yo son and I are enjoying reading it together.

My daughter is 11 and had to read Harriet the Spy in school this year, she loved it so we bought all the rest of the books. I would recommend this book to all kids to read. Nothing we disliked about this book.
I read Harriet the Spy and it was one of the best books I ever read. When I bought Sport, I thought that it would be just as good, if not better. It turned out to be terrible. The whole story is about the funeral and they wedding, the last thirty pages or so we're about his mother kidnapping him and everything. It was a waste of money, and I would not recommend. If you liked Harriet the Spy, think wisely before purchasing this. The end wasn't terrible, but the rest is boring.
